The mistress of black magic hails from Australia. Trudi Canavan (born 1969), a trained graphic artist and designer, made her celebrated debut as an author more or less on the side with a fantasy short story. That was in 1999. In 2001, the first volume of what would become the legendary Black Magician Trilogy was published. The Age of the Five trilogy and The Magician’s Apprentice followed, and also became worldwide bestsellers.

The Australian author remains thrilled and grateful that so many people enjoy her books. Trudi Canavan continues to write tirelessly—after all, her main character Sonea still offers material for many more stories.
